Music learning games

In project seminars on gamification, students at Berlin University of the Arts design their own music learning games. A visit to Hermann-von-Helmholtz-Gymnasium Potsdam provides an opportunity to try them with pupils.

The “Konzertsaal” example

One example is the student-designed game “Konzertsaal”, with its instrument cards. The photographs show its classroom trial and the pupils’ feedback sheets.

Trying the games in music lessons

In the seminar, we discuss the musical tasks, rules and feedback from the school visit. The students then revise their games.

My article “Homo ludens – homo musicans” discusses the possibilities and limitations of gamification in music teaching.
