Teaching at
UdK Berlin

At Berlin University of the Arts, I teach future music teachers. My seminars cover lesson planning, group music-making, motivation and assessment.

Project seminars

Materials for
music lessons

Students develop their own materials and lesson ideas. The music learning games project includes a school visit: pupils try the games, and the students discuss the experience in their seminar.

Pupils use feedback sheets to respond to a music learning game

Approach to teaching

How I teach my seminars

01Giving reasons for teaching decisions

We read research papers and discuss them in relation to specific classroom questions. Students explain their choices of tasks and methods.

02Working with different starting points

When planning lessons, we consider the pupils’ different musical experiences and the ways they can approach a shared musical task.

03Discussing outcomes and revising work

We discuss lesson plans in the seminar and use feedback from practical trials. Students revise tasks and materials and explain their changes.
